As many as 4,000+ players are expected to enter the 2025-2026 College Football Transfer Portal. But how good are those thousands of players? In what effectively amounts to CFB free agency, which players are worth allocating recruiting/roster budget to, and which players should be avoided? How many wins are those transfer players worth?

Leveraging the unique power and statistical rigor of the mcillecesports.com player ratings methodology, a system that has led to the most accurate preseason predictions of the Transfer Portal Era (2022 – 2025), we are publishing free ratings tables of virtually all the significant FBS players in the nation*. Players are included whether or not they have entered the portal, providing useful comparisons for those recruitable transfers. FCS players who have entered the Transfer Portal are also included.
Note that no single statistic tells the whole story. See column information below for important context to keep in mind when reviewing the player ratings.
Column Information
- TeamID: Numeric Team identifier. Useful for filtering out teams with similar names, such as Michigan and Western Michigan.
- Team: All FBS teams are included.
- Order: Default position (POS) ordering, from offense to defense to special teams. Using the Order filter is the most efficient way to review position groups.
- POS: Position group. Complete groupings:
- Offense: Quarterbacks (QB), Running Backs (RB), Wide Receivers (WR), Offensive Line (OL), Tight Ends/Fullbacks/H-Backs (TE)
- Defense: Defensive Line/Edge (DL), Linebackers (LB), Defensive Backs (DB)
- Special Teams: Kickoffs (KO), Punts (PT), Field Goals/Extra Points (PK), Kick Returns (KR), Punt Returns (PR)
- Player: Player listed on the team roster in 2025. May or may not still be with the team (e.g., entered the portal, declared for NFL draft, dismissed from program, etc.).
- NetWin: Player’s estimated net win value as a full-time starter on an average FBS team running standard college football schemes/systems**. Scaled to a 12-game regular season. NetWin can be negative if a player rates below average.
- Pctile: Player’s national percentile, on a 0–100 scale, compared to all FBS players at the same position. Pctile is based on the estimate of NetWin and the player’s total experience. Estimates for more experienced players are more precise (low variance), while inexperienced players are rated closer to average/50th Pctile due to lack of sufficient statistical information (high variance). Because of differences in precision, some players with higher NetWins can have lower Pctiles than other players, and vice versa. See CGE below for more information about player experience.
- Portal: Player is listed in the Transfer Portal, as of the date listed in Latest Updates above, in either the 24/7 or On3 portal trackers. Note that no portal tracking list is perfect, so some players may be missed. However, ratings for qualifying D1 players are reported regardless of portal status.
- 2025 Weight: How much of the player’s rating is based on 2025 performance/production statistics. When this number is low relative to others in the same position group, that can be an indicator of adverse playing time conditions (injuries, low in depth chart, difficulty adjusting to higher level of football, etc.) and warrants further investigation. This column is collapsed in mobile/tablet view.
- CGE: Complete Game Equivalents. CGE is a measure of experience, where larger numbers indicate more experienced players. Specifically, CGE measures the absolute total of win probability effects the player has had on games throughout his career. CGEs tend to be large for players who are heavily involved throughout the game, like QBs. Players with CGE close to zero do not have much competitive game experience, and so the NetWin and Pctile ratings of these players are based on very little data.
- Destination: Committed new team of a player in the Transfer Portal. This column is collapsed in mobile/tablet view.
- Dest.ID: Numeric Destination identifier. Useful for filtering a team’s committed transfer class. This column is collapsed in mobile/tablet view.
- FBS: Zero-one indicator variable for FBS players. Useful for filtering by FBS (1) or FCS (0) teams and players. This column is collapsed in mobile/tablet view.
*Defined here as players in the top 75% of career productivity nationwide in at least one position group. This is an expansive definition that only excludes players with scant competitive game experience. All other players, including top recruits who haven’t played yet or FCS players who have not entered the portal, are not included in this version of the table.
**This can be a critical distinction, especially for QBs. For example, Navy’s Blake Horvath has a much higher value in the Midshipmen option system than he would in a “standard” FBS offense. However, the standardization by system allows players to be compared generally without being tied to a specific coaching staff or scheme.
