Regular season projection for the college football Top 25 rankings.
Top 25 can mean different things, but here it represents my best statistical forecast of what the CFP Top 25 will look like after the regular season.
Power Rating is the expected margin of victory versus an average FBS opponent on a neutral field. Scoring Offense and Scoring Defense represent average points scored and points allowed per game, respectively, adjusted for strength of schedule. Relative Power is the difference between a team’s Power Rating and their average opponents’ Power Ratings. This can also be thought of as the expected average margin of victory per game (before adjusting for home field advantage).
As an example, #1 Clemson is expected to outscore their regular season opponents by about 34 points per game. That’s best in the nation — and a big reason they are #1.
